There is always a balance between collective
rights and individual rights. In a frontier society
the individual rights increase and the collective
rights (and responsibilities) become voluntary.
That's what Daniel Boone was talking about when
he said "when you can see the smoke from your
neighbor's fire, it's time to move".
The problem with America is the fundamental
problem of all civilizations -- how to align
the interests of our leaders with the interests
of individual citizens. We've never done this
very well, but we're going backwards at a
frightening pace as the corporate interests
increase their strangle hold on the political
process. They're making their decisions to
serve the corporate interests, not yours.
I could go on and on, but this is just a short
email. When it comes to Harley vs Everybody Else,
just remember that all advertising is propeganda.
I was curious to see a new American motorcycle
called "Victory" made by the Polaris company (at
least I think Polaris is American). Then there's
Buell -- I expect more innovation from them. Maybe
the American bikes will soon offer the range of
choices that that the Japanese bikes have been
known for.
Freedom comes from inside, from knowing who you
are, and from being able to select the things that
influence you. This helps you to know when to
act out (like they did in Tennessee) and when to
sit tight and watch the shepherds and their
dogs herd the sheep.
Enough for now. Ride and enjoy.
